Remove all obstacles
Although working on your mindset only takes 5 to 10 minutes a day, it is important that you can actually make time for this over an extended period of time.
After all, the goal is to change your mindset by learning a new habit, and this takes time.
That is why you should check whether there are any barriers or obstacles that could stand in the way of this.
An untimely end can lead to disappointment and to the belief that you are unable to change your mindset.
Below we describe several potential barriers and obstacles that can stand in the way of working on your mindset.
1. No time or too busy
You may be very busy with other commitments at this point in your life, making it difficult to spend 5 to 10 minutes a day on yourself.
For example, a new job or study, a move, pregnancy, promotion or an important deadline can take up all your time.
2. Distraction
You may also be distracted by other issues that require your attention. For example, an illness in the family or payment arrears due to high energy costs can distract your attention.
If you have other concerns and/or practical problems on your mind, there is simply less room to work on yourself.
Pleasant events can also keep you from working on yourself. For example, if you just got into a new relationship, or are getting married soon, changing jobs, or moving house, it can take a lot of attention.
3. Mental health problems
You may also suffer from psychological problems. For example, if you are very depressed, you may not have enough energy and discipline to (continue to) work on improving your mindset.
If this is the case, it is important to consider the seriousness of psychological problems and the extent to which they hinder working on your mindset.
In case of serious psychological problems, we recommend seeking professional help.
4. Addiction
An addiction can also make it difficult to work on your mindset consistently.
For example, if you smoke weed and/or drink alcohol every day or often, it can be difficult to muster the discipline that changing your mindset requires of you.
The addiction can also distort your perception, so that you efforts simply do not have the desired effect.
In case of obstacles
If one or more barriers or obstacles are present, removing these will increase your likelihood of success.
If it is not possible to remove them, you should ask yourself whether this is the right time to start working on your mindset.
