Context matters

    Take circumstances into account

Your mood and energy can vary from day to day. It may be that on some days you are not feeling well, have little energy or are overwhelmed by negative thoughts and feelings.

On these days it can be harder to focus on the positive things in your life. It is important to take this into account and adjust your ambitions accordingly.

    Finding positive things

Taking your circumstances into account can make it easier to identify something positive. Something that normally goes without saying can be a big challenge in this situation.

For example, when you are sick a visit to the supermarket or cooking food can be quite an achievement.

What did you manage to achieve?

You can take the circumstances into account by asking yourself what you managed to achieve despite this.

    For example:

    • Even though I’m not feeling very well, I still…
    • Despite my negative thoughts and/or feelings, I still…

In this way you can ensure that you are able to discover something positive every day and record it in your positive diary.

“Look for something positive every day, even if some days you have to look a little harder.”
