Don’t set the bar too high
To build a better mindset, you have to pay more attention to your positive thoughts, feelings and behavior.
And you have to keep this up until you have developed a habit and it becomes automatic.
It is therefore important that you not set the bar too high. This way, you make sure that you can keep it up long enough to form a new habit.
A marathon, not a sprint
You should see the building of a better mindset as a training schedule for a marathon.
When you start training for a marathon, it is not wise to plan a run of 30 kilometers in the first week of training.
If you are too ambitious in the first training, you run the risk of injury and having to stop the training.
The same goes for building a better mindset. A too intensive start is not only hard to maintain, but can also create false expectations and lead to disappointment and a loss of motivation.
“A journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step.”
~ Chinese Proverb
Start small, but with big dreams
When training for a marathon, it is important to build up the distance slowly. You do this by maintaining a speed and pace that suits you.
Any athlete can finish a marathon as long as he or she maintains the right pace.
If you go too fast, you collapse. If you start slowly enough, you can also make it to the finish.
When you are able to finish the marathon at your pace, only then you start working on increasing your pace to set a faster time.
This also applies to changing your mindset. First you have to find your pace. That is, creating a simple routine that you can easily maintain for a longer period of time.
When this routine has become a habit and you are aware of the positive effects, you can intensify the training to get more out of it.
