Keep repeating
Your goal is to develop a positive mindset, which allows you to enjoy the little things in life to create the positive thoughts and feelings that are needed to tackle the big things in life.
This means that you must first develop the skill to be able to do this.
To develop this skill, you need to reflect on the small positive things that happen to you on a daily basis.
At first, these things might be the same each day.
Keep at it
Even if you have already written down something one or more times, don’t think that it is no longer necessary or that it is no longer allowed to write down this experience.
If the experience is positive and makes you feel good, keep writing it down over and over again.
“A disciplined mind leads to happiness, an undisciplined mind to suffering.”
~ Dalai Lama
Practice makes perfect
Practice makes perfect. If you want to practice a martial art, you must first master the basics.
You don’t start with special kicking techniques or acrobatics.
You start by practicing the building blocks of the style you have chosen.
“Practice makes perfect. After a long time of practice, our work will become natural, skillful, fast and stable.”
~ Bruce Lee, Chinese-American martial artist, actor, and Kung Fu teacher
The same goes for using a positive diary. Here too you first have to learn the basics.
This is the ability to enjoy the little positive things in your life.
It doesn’t matter if these are the same things over and over, the important thing is to keep practicing.
Habit formation
By keeping this up long enough, you not only develop a skill, but it also becomes automatic.
You have formed a habit and you don’t have to pay conscious attention to it anymore, because your subconscious has taken over this task.
But until then you will have to keep doing this very consciously.
“As practice makes perfect, I can’t help but make progress; every drawing you make, every study you paint, is a step forward.”
~ Vincent van Gogh, one of the most famous and influential painters
